Gunnery Sergeant Sam Hoch travels to the Pac Norwest upon receiving word his mentor and the closest thing to a father he’s had, has taken a turn for the worse and is in the hospital. Once there he meets a woman who is unlike any he’s ever met before. A former Marine herself, she opens up her home to him so he can be near his family.
Roxi Mammon isn’t positive it was smart to allow Sam to stay with her, not with her immediate physical reaction to him. She’d heard tales of him from her best friend, his sister, and now having met him she is even more impressed by the man the Corps has turned him into. Silent strong type. Passion grows between them and soon she finds herself falling for the Recon Marine. And falling hard.
As things escalate between them, Sam has to accept his past doesn’t control him if he plans on keeping Roxi in his future. Can he understand that this is the one woman who can give him something more? Will he silence the fear within him and tell Roxi she’s the one for him? Will he realise that he deserves more than just a temporary home?

I hope there is a follow-up on Sam & Roxi in the next story, if there's a next story. Everything was wrapping up nicely and then all of a sudden it ended with a very important unresolved issue.I loved the build-up. I admired both Roxi and Sam characters and their own emotional struggles. Roxi was understanding almost to a fault, but again Sam was also stubborn to a fault. Dean, Sr. I just adored.. However his Long lost son, Dean, Jr. was in the story in the beginning, then pretty much disappeared afterwards. I felt there is more to their story that needed to be told. It just seems that 3/4 of the story has to do with Sam & Roxi's sexual tension. I wasn't quite sure where the author was going with Leila's feelings regarding Sam initially , but as the story kept going her feelings were credible. Ritchie's name kept coming up a few times throughout the story as a love interest of Leila. It would be nice if they had their own full story, it seems there's so much more to explore between the two.
The story in general was a nice one.. not without it faults and of course the ending left much to be desired, but I'm hoping that the author has a follow-up story to tie up loose ends.

Great storyline and well written. However, the ending was long and drawn out. I've read 2 other books by this author and she seems to have the same pattern in all her books. The male characters always have a past girlfriend who tries to mess up his current relationship and the endings are always over the top and unnecessarily drawn out. The female characters personalities are basically all the same. Only their names change from book to book.
Aliyah Burke is one of my favorite author's. When I saw that she released a new book, I immediately purchased it. I don't give reviews on all of the books that I read, and I read a lot of books, but this book deserves to have one. I was pulling for Sam from the moment I started reading his story. Roxi was and is perfect for him. There are many Sam's that are in this world looking for the same thing that he had been searching for his entire life. This was a wonderful well written book and I applaud you for telling it so well.
I am a sucker for a hero with a messed up childhood. As such, I really loved Sam. His story was so well written that I felt his pain. I loved how strong Roxie was. She was perfect for Sam. She had his back and was so patient and understanding. I like my heroines strong and Roxie did not disappoint. I wish we could get a follow up book on Sam and Roxie. I would love for Sam to find his family and find out why they did what they did. Just loved this sweet story.
I have always enjoyed Ms. Burke's IR stories because they are so full of love and life in its true essence. This one did not disaapoint. I love Roxi and there is nothing like a strong loving woman regardless of her race. I loved how she took Hoch as he was and gave what she could. I didn't like her running away from him but that is human nature to protect oneself from being hurt.Master Gun embracing him as a boy and a man is so touching and I hope there are more men like that in and out of uniform. Marines are a special breed and I am so proud of our men and women in uniform.
Ihghly reccomend this great IR story for those that love Christmas and love at its hottest.I want Ritchie and Laila's story next. Happy reading and Happy New Year!
I read this book about 2 years ago. I decided to go ahead and write a review since I wrote one for the 3rd book in this series.
I loved Sam and Roxi as a couple. Both with military background so the foundation and understanding of what military personnel deal with and go through already exist in each of their character traits. I love the patience Roxi showed with the time Sam took in coming around and truely opening his heart to her and her nephew. Roxi leaving the military to provide a stable environment for hew nephew is heart-warming and so selfless. And yet she is a no nonsense and takes no mess type of woman, you go Roxi. Loved this story.
Roxie and Sam were out of bounds hot!!
Sam is a quite soul that has had many hardships as a child. Roxie is an ex-marine that gave up her career for her young nephew.
I really wanted to give the book 5 stars, but I couldn't.
I felt the main characters needed more depth - Roxie was a complete mystery I wish the author would have given more details into her life. Sam's past was detailed well, but the dude never talked - LIKE never!! He said a few sentences/phrases the whole book.
I think the book needed more romance because, Sam and Roxie never seemed to have a real conversation. They just had some great sex. I wanted more dialogue and romance.
Even though Sam is not a big talker I stilled LOVED him!!

This book was one to remember!!! The story had a great plot and well put together, the characters flowed well. For this to have been her first book, it was an interesting great read. The money I paid for this story was well spent! It was a page turner as well as a must read!!! I can’t wait for the second part of this story. I hope Alton’s father get what is coming to him. It had love, hate, romance, and enough HOT STEAMY SEX in it…Buy the book you will not be disappointed!!! Delightfully mature, un-put-downable with OMG! Great moments of suspenseful brilliantly developed in so few pages. Fantastic, skillful writing to be able to pull me in from page one, fully develop the H/h characters and 3 other side characters with dramatics and theatrics, although never over the top, filled romance based plot. (Well that was a mouthful)
As always, be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
